Key Performance Indicators for Smart Energy Systems in Sustainable Universities

Sustainable campus management includes energy-saving measures and waste reduction has become important to many universities, being part of the institution’s societal responsibility. Smart energy systems (SESs), as management, can bring benefits, including increased efficiency, reduced consumption, emissions, reliability, real-time control, facilitate integration renewable (RES). Despite growing interest in efficiency for initiatives projects implement SESs, there are no universally accepted standards assessing performance with most techniques dedicated subsystems. A KPI (key indicator) framework evaluating SESs’ from university campuses is proposed, starting current findings priorities scientific literature, standards, legislation, rankings. The support implementation, operation, evaluation SESs campuses, based on SES requirements stakeholders’ goals. Unlike previously developed solutions, focused not only technical side but also role that education, research, innovation should have sustainable development, making universities key contributors achieving these
